Project

Bel Air Police Department

The expansion and renovation of the Bel Air Police & Town Hall Building provided a critical modernization of the public safety facility.  Originally built in 1963, the Police & Town Hall Building had long required additional space and an overhaul of outdated systems to keep pace with modern advancements.  Carroll Engineering provided civil and structural engineering, as well as landscape architecture on this $11 million project, which was completed in 2023.  Work included 12,300 SF of interior renovations, 20,000 SF of additions, parking modifications, and reconfiguration of the building’s front entrance.

Highlights

  • Building structural designs included concrete and steel framing for the addition with shallow spread footing foundations. Renovations included mechanical upgrades and new front entrance canopy.
  • The limit of disturbance was 1.33 acres; our civil team expanded parking, increased ADA access, and enhanced site circulation. Stormwater management included micro-bioretention areas and rain gardens.
  • Landscape Architectural designs included stormwater management plantings, landscaping for building perimeter, and reconfiguration of main entrance.
  • Project was phased to allow building to remain operational throughout construction.
