The Performing Arts Center at Garrett College

The $21 million Performing Arts Center at Garrett College is the first facility of its kind in Garrett County. Opened in late 2022, the 27,000-SF building project created an event venue to serve both the college and the community. The PAC provides theater, entertainment, and education spaces to be used by Garrett College, local community groups, arts organizations, and county school students. Designs included a 450-seat proscenium theatre, a black box theater, reception venue, a 2,000-SF conference center and recital hall, an outdoor amphitheater, and educational departments for Garrett College. CEI provided full structural, civil, and landscape architecture services for the adaptive reuse of an existing 11,000-SF athletic center and construction of a 16,000-SF addition to accommodate the new performing arts center.

Highlights

  • Structural designs included plans for the new stage house with adjoining auditorium and an orchestra pit constructed over the existing gymnasium structure. The addition features shallow spread footing foundations, galvanized metal roof deck, and CMU and brick veneer.
  • The site required full stormwater management and erosion/sediment control plans, including two new micro-bioretention areas with plantings, approved by Garrett County.
  • Our site team provided plans for a 1,100-SF exterior performance pad with surrounding plaza area to accommodate outdoor productions. The space features ornamental pavers, hardscaping, and ADA accessible walkways.
