Project

UMMS Shore Medical Center

Opened in 2021, this 82,000-SF freestanding medical facility in Dorchester County provides emergency and outpatient services to the entire eastern shore. Centrally located at the Cambridge Marketplace retail center along Route 50, the Shore Medical Center consists of a 39,000-SF first-floor emergency department providing around-the-clock care. The emergency department features critical care facilities, observation rooms, and behavioral health treatment. The second floor, known as the Shore Medical Pavilion, houses medical offices, a state-of-the-art imaging center, a community education room, and other outpatient facilities. CEI provided full structural designs for the construction of the medical center, which features steel framing, a deep foundation system, future expansion capabilities, and a rooftop helipad.

Highlights

  • Building structural designs included consideration of heavy medical equipment loads and vibratory and deflection tolerances.
  • The structure required a deep foundation system with concrete grade beams supporting the CMU shear walls.
  • The $34 million construction project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification.
