Carroll Engineering provided civil engineering and landscape architectural designs for a new, mixed-use medical office building on a 1.5-acre site at the old Maryland General Hospital now known as the University of Maryland Medical Systems Midtown Campus. The 10-story building features a first-floor Ambulatory Surgery Center, five floors of garage parking, and four floors of medical office space. Access to the garage will be through a connection to the existing Madison Street Garage, adjacent to the proposed building. CEI prepared concept designs to accommodate work on the constrained urban site. The project required extensive exterior improvements to facilitate pedestrian and vehicular access to the building, including patient drop-off and pick-up areas, and ambulance access to the Surgery Center. CEI provided full civil and landscape architectural designs for reconstruction of sidewalks, curb ramps and ADA considerations, lighting improvements, new paving patterns, planting beds, and streetscaping.
