The Shops at Canton Crossing

Located on more than 30 acres of waterfront property in downtown Baltimore, the Shops at Canton Crossing is a commercial development that brings national retailers and contemporary restaurants to the popular Canton neighborhood. Completed in two phases over several years, the development consists of two neighboring shopping centers with more than 400,000 SF of leasable space. The first phase, Canton Crossing I, was completed in 2013. This $105 million project features 325,000 SF of retail and 31 tenants, including several that opened their first locations in Baltimore City. Built five years later, Canton Crossing II is the second phase and sister development to the 2013 construction and includes an 86,500-SF retail center. CEI provided full structural designs for both project phases, accommodating tenants such as the Farmstead Grill, DSW, ULTA Beauty, Mission Barbeque, Old Navy, and Michaels.

Highlights

  • Building structural designs included a 30-foot-high cantilevered canopy and timber trellis for Mission Barbeque and exposed interior timber trusses at the Farmstead Grill
  • Buildings at both developments are single story, consisting of steel framing, glass storefronts, and shallow spread footings.
  • Several of the buildings feature tilt-up wall panels.
