Blakehurst Senior Living Community

The Blakehurst Senior Living Community offers independent, assisted, and skilled care housing options on a 40-acre suburban campus in Towson, Md. In 2017, the complex opened a 41,000-SF addition with assisted living apartments, state-of-the-art medical care spaces, a variety of modern amenities, and a ground-floor health center. The expansion includes a 2-story addition with a 6,800-SF memory care wing, a salon and spa, fitness studios, a movie theater, administrative spaces, and private skilled nursing suites. CEI provided full structural designs for this construction project, including steel framing, pre-engineered wood trusses, brick veneer, and an enclosed walkway connecting the new addition to existing facilities.

CEI also provided full structural designs for a renovation and addition project at Blakehurst in 2012, which included a 1,350-SF expansion to the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy facilities, as well as interior renovations to the Nursing Center.

Highlights

  • Building structural designs included pre-engineered wood trusses, masonry bearing walls, brick veneer and wood siding, steel framing, and a Hambro floor system.
  • The addition is founded on shallow spread footings with cast-in-place reinforced concrete retaining walls supporting below-grade floors.
  • The addition totals 41,000 SF.
