Cheltenham Men’s Youth Facility

CEI provided civil and landscape architectural services for a new, 99,000-SF detention and education building on the Cheltenham Youth Correctional campus. The facility provides dormitory, educational, and food services spaces. CEI provided site designs for the detention building, as well as associated warehouse and storage structures, and outdoor recreational infrastructure, including a 400-meter track, athletic field, and multiple secured basketball courts. In addition to the main detention building, supporting equipment included emergency generators, dumpsters, and a sewage pumping station. We incorporated security measures including fencing, a sallyport, vegetated buffers, and a staff vehicle drive path surrounding the track. Site circulation included sidewalks, a 150-vehicle parking lot, and ADA accessibility. CEI provided full civil designs for this $32 million project, including stormwater management and erosion/sediment control approved by MDE, as well as coordination with MES for water and sanitary facilities.

Highlights

  • Site designs included stormwater management solutions, such as micro-bioretention areas and porous asphalt and athletic surfaces.
  • The area of disturbance for the project was 23 acres.
  • Landscape architectural designs were developed for site security and included removal of trees and plans for a new entrance drive with decorative plantings.
