Weinberg Housing and Resource Center

The Weinberg Housing and Resource Center, located at 620 Fallsway in downtown Baltimore, is the city’s largest overnight emergency homeless shelter. Serving more than 250 people daily, the center provides housing, convalescent care, meals, and life skills training. Created through the adaptive re-use of a former public parking garage, designs for the Weinberg center included a 25-bed medical clinic, a new entrance lobby addition, and interior renovations to accommodate offices, administrative spaces, classrooms, and full-service kitchen and laundry facilities. CEI provided full structural designs for this reconstruction project, which also included removal and reconstruction of existing upper floors, new floor-to-ceiling windows, and framing for multiple new additions.

Highlights

  • Building structural designs included three additions: a 12,000-SF third-floor convalescent clinic, a new entrance lobby, and a stair and elevator tower. Designs included concrete framing and load analysis.
  • Building structural designs began with a condition assessment and code analysis of the existing, 21,500-SF garage, which led to our final design product.
  • This reconstruction and expansion project achieved LEED Silver certification.
