UMBC Patapsco Hall Addition
Site: Southeast Campus Area
Client: University of Maryland Baltimore County
Location: Baltimore County, MD
Reacting to predictions of significant enrollment increases, the University of Maryland Baltimore County unveiled in 2009 aspirations for several major growth projects. CEI provided structural engineering designs for the expansion of Patapsco Hall, a four-story dormitory on campus. Under an aggressive 20-month design/build schedule, our team completed plans to increase space at UMBC with a 189-bed, 57,000 gross-square-foot addition. Patapsco Hall received LEED Silver certification and now houses 340 residents. Using REVIT software, our engineers completed structural designs including shallow spread footings, hollow-core concrete plank, interior and exterior masonry bearing walls and a steel-framed lobby area.
