Healthcare for the Homeless

Location:  Baltimore City, MD

CEI completed structural engineering services for a 56,639 gross square foot medical clinic to accommodate the delivery of comprehensive health services to at least 60,000 patient visits annually. Our staff reviewed the soils report and coordinated with the geotechnical engineer to design a 3 foot diameter caisson deep foundation system since poor soils existed in this flood plain location. CEI designed a concrete superstructure for the first floor founded on grade beams and piers to obtain a finish floor elevation of 22.5'. Second and third floors consisted of cost-effective composite steel system connected to steel roof joist framing supported by steel girders. A lateral masonry shear walls were designed for stability. CEI designed an exterior 30 foot long metal handicap accessible ramp with a standard turndown concrete footing.
