University of Baltimore Student Center

Innovative spatial designs were a key part of CEI's site plans for this five story student center located in the heart of Baltimore City. With limited construction space, the University of Baltimore chose CEI to provide civil services, and our team successfully completed designs to place the 38,000 gross-square-foot student center within the constraints of one Baltimore City block at the intersection of Maryland and Mt. Royal Avenues. Our team prepared existing, demolition and proposed site plans in compliance with University of Maryland standards, and coordinated with the Baltimore City DPW to consolidate the existing four lots into one. The rear alley was co-owned by Baltimore City and UMB, and CEI cooperated with both parties to define ownership and closing procedures. Our team also organized City right-of-way demolition permit requirements, utility connections, the developer's agreement, parking, and traffic maintenance conditions. By converting the rear alley surface from an impervious surface to grass, our engineers minimized stormwater runoff in the area. Resurfacing the alley also created a natural swale to collect stormwater from an adjacent parking lot.
