Black Bridge Replacement

Site:  Fair Hills Natural Resource Management Area
Client:  Maryland Department of Natural Resources
Location:  Cecil County, MD

The Fair Hills Natural Resources Management Area is used for regional and national outdoor events. This bridge was constructed in an environmentally sensitive area under the auspices of the Department of Natural Resources. CEI completed a flood plain analysis of the Big Elk Creek watershed that determined the 100-year water surface elevation. Our staff analyzed both abutment concrete structures for scour protection and designed rip-rap protection along both stream banks. Other designs incleded a stream diversion device, temporary dewatering area for each abutment, approach roadway realignment, traffic signage, guardrail and improvements to adjoining paved Creek Trail. Services provided included full civil and structural design, permitting in the flood plain, and construction administration.
