Garage / Maintenance
Baltimore Street Garage
Site: 210 West Baltimore Street
Client: Baltimore City Department of Public Works
Location: Baltimore City, MD
CEI was involved in two separate phases for the construction of the Baltimore Street Parking Garage. Because of our involvement in both phases, the project schedule was shortened by at least eight months:
Phase I
CEI prepared demolition plans and specifications to demolish the eight business structures located on the City block bounded by Fayette, Baltimore, South and Guilford. CEI was the Prime Engineer and coordinated with City personnel throughout the preparation of the bid package, attended the pre-bid meeting, evaluated the bids and visited the site during construction. Our staff researched existing utilities in area, then contacted private and public utility agencies to assist in the disconnection of services to each property; also coordinated temporary power for the Contractor with BGE. CEI specified site planning issues such as temporary stockpiling of material and Contractor staging areas, City salvage items, debris removal procedures and temporary construction fencing.
Phase II
CEI prepared plans and specifications for civil/site improvements to construct a 7-level, 200,000 square foot parking garage. Our designs included grading, erosion & sediment control and storm drainage through standard H manholes in the public right-of-way. CEI prepared a Developer's Agreement for water and sanitary service connections and two garage entrances off of Baltimore Street and Guilford Avenue. We incorporated streetscaping details, especially along Holiday Street where CEI added four surface parking spaces after widening the west curb location.
